Should I have my gutters cleaned? Glen Cove Gutter Cleaning.

Should I have my gutters cleaned?

The gutter system (also know ss the eavesthrough or eaves-shorts) around your home are essential to removing water from your home. Keeping this system clear of debris is important. When your gutters and downspouts are blocked with leaves, twigs and dirt rainwater will not drain properly causing the water to overflow. This can result in water damage to your roof, siding and possibly interior.

How Often Should

My Gutters  Be Cleaned?

We recommend that you use our service at least twice a year. On Long Island debris can gather not only in the Fall but throughout the year. Even if you don’t have trees directly over your home and getters, debris will gather. The strong Long Island storms we often have can bring debris from neighboring areas to your roof washing into your gutter system.

If leaves are left inside your gutters for even a short period of time, they can quickly decompose which instantly creates a solid blockage in the gutter.

Gutters

Need Repair?

Glen Cove Gutter Cleaning- gutter fastenings

We know you don’t want to climb up on the roof yourself (and we highly recommend that you don’t) but there are a number of ways to know if your gutters need to be cleaned...

If you see that rain is flowing over the side of the gutters, you need your gutters cleaned.

If there are plants growing out of the gutter, you need to have your gutters cleaned.

If it’s raining hard but you don’t see water coming out of the downspout, you need your gutters cleaned.

If water is coming through your windows or doors sills, you need to have your gutters cleaned.

If your gutter is sagging at any point, you need to have your gutters cleaned.

Birds or bugs are making a home in our gutters- you need to have your gutters cleaned.

If you see staining drips down your gutters, you need to have your gutters cleaned.

If Left Unattended...

If your gutters remain clogged with leaves or debris the water has nowhere to go and will escape the gutters seeping through into your walls which can rot the wood. The water can also back up into your roof creating irreversible damage. Water that pools and  accumulate around your foundation can compromise the foundation of your home creating cracks in the foundation. Call us today before this happens.

How do we clean gutters? Glen Cove Gutter Cleaning

We take a lot of pride in our work and our staff is professional and take pride in their work.

We use state-of-the-art brushes cleaning your gutters not only inside but out. We bring back the original white luster of your gutters removing any markings and algae that often develops. We will also inspect your gutter system for any damages including seams and reattach any loose locations.

Should I Try Cleaning

My Gutters Myself ?

We’d prefer that you leave it to an expert to clean your gutters, with the proper equipment and tools. While the obvious danger is that climbing up high on your roof is dangerous as a homeowner there are other risks. Decayed plants and bugs can release mold spores and fungus when they are removed. This can cause respiratory issues should you inhale it. This can also irritate your hands, nose, ears, and eyes which might result in a rash.

Pest Control?

Did you know that having gutters that are un serviced can also lead to pest issues?

Pest Control in gutters. Glen Cove Gutter Cleaning

Yes, it’s true! Dirt and debris in the gutters can attract ants and even termites which can damage your home.

Excess accumulation of water with the gutters and downspouts can also lead to an infestation of mosquitoes. Birds, racoons and squirls can make nests in your gutters and then expand their homes into the attic of your home. Call us today at 516-210-2313   before it gets to this point!

The Best Defense Is Us

The best defense against water damage from a damaged, leaking or clogged gutter is to have a professional assessment done. We will honestly tell you any issues we find and offer a cost-efficient solution that won’t kill your home budget but will save your home in the long run.

Your Gutters

and Winter

Here on Long Island we have to deal with ice, snow and rain, this can be extremely damaging to your gutter system.

Think about it- during the fall leaves form in your gutter and keep the water from flowing freely. If you don’t have those leaves removed when the freezing rain starts it has nowhere to go- the leaves and debris is blocking it. Once the outside temperature dips below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (zero Celsius, 273.15 Kelvin) this water will freeze. The frozen water’s expansion can make the seams pop within your gutters. Especially large amount of frozen water, being heavier, can also cause the gutters to pull away from the house.

If you are seeing icicles forming off your gutters it's a tell-tale sign that your gutters are clogged and not functioning properly.

Icicles Could

Lead To Damage

While the icicles may be photographically pleasing, and perhaps lead a hand to your snowman sculpture, they can do a great deal of damage to your gutters.

The extra weight of the ice that has acclimated inside your gutter which has caused the icicles to form weights a great deal. This weight could cause your gutters brackets, nails, and screws to ultimately pull away from your home's soffit. Even the slightest space between your soffit and the gutter can allow water to leak into your home. The backing up of ice and snow can also cause damage to your roofing.

Why Do I Need Gutters?

On the North Shore of Long Island, as you know, we get a lot of rain in the months of March, April and May and all that water needs to go somewhere. When you don’t have gutters, or your gutters are clogged, the water can do a lot of damage to your home including rotting the wood (both inside and outside the walls) and compromise the integrity of the foundation and ultimately damaging your roofing. This can lead to the concrete crumbling, cracking of mortar joints. We can help you prevent all this- call us today at 516-210-2313

Did you know that in Canada they call rain gutters,  "Eavestroughs”

When it comes to discussing the parts of a house, there are certain terms that we all assume are universal. For instance, the rain gutter – an important part of any home's drainage system which we all know here in the United States is called gutters… However, if you were to travel north of the United States into Canada, you might find yourself puzzled by the locals referring to these essential structures as  an "eavestrough."  Why do they call them that?

Custom Fit: Because every property is different, seamless gutters are made to precisely fit the measurements of your home. This guarantees ideal water drainage and flow, lowering the chance of water pooling and various water-related problems.

Enhanced Aesthetics: Seamless gutters give a home a clean, modern look because they blend in well with the building's architecture. They are available in a range of hues and finishes, letting homeowners select one that blends in with the exterior of their house.

How do I Know It's time to
have my gutters Serviced

Is it time to have your gutters cleaned? Call Glen Cove Gutter Service.

Knowing when to have your gutters cleaned is essential for keeping your house in good condition and avoiding any water damage. The following are some warning signals that it's time to have your gutters cleaned:

Clogged Gutters: When your gutters become clogged with leaves, debris, or dirt, this is one of the most obvious symptoms that they need cleaning. When it rains, you might find the gutters overflowing with water or even see vegetation growing there. In homes with clogged gutters, water can back up and pour onto the roof or down the walls, damaging the roof and walls.

Peeling Paint or Rust: Rust can weaken gutters over time, leading to leaks and structural problems. Peeling paint or rust spots on gutters may indicate that water is overflowing and coming into contact with the gutter material. Gutter Separation: If you notice gaps between gutter sections or between the gutter and the downspout, it's important to have them reconnected and sealed properly. Separated gutters can result in water leaks and inefficiency.

Pests that nest: Neglected gutters can serve as a breeding ground for rats, insects, and birds. It's time to have your gutters cleaned and maintained if you spot any indications of nesting activity.

Water in Crawlspace or Basement: If your gutters are not properly diverting water away from your property, you may have water seepage in the crawlspace or basement. This needs to be fixed right away because it can cause foundation problems.

Visually check your gutters for any damage that is apparent, such as cracks, holes, or bent parts. Inadequate water flow and drainage might be hampered by damage to the gutter system.

It's advised to have your gutters cleaned and inspected at least twice a year, often in the spring and fall, to keep them in good shape. Additionally, it's a good idea to inspect the gutters for damage or obstructions after significant storms or strong winds.

It's recommended to engage a professional gutter cleaning and maintenance service if you see any of the warning signals listed above or suspect that your gutters need care. To make sure your gutter system operates well and guards your property against water damage, they can clean the gutters, diagnose any problems, and perform any necessary repairs.
